Join this two-year academy to build an understanding of how writing strengthens comprehension and the executive functions that support successful readers and writers. Grounded in the science of writing, we will learn how writing develops from sentence-level skills to extended text. We will explore how explicit instruction in sentence construction, syntax, and grammar will strengthen student writing clarity and complexity. We will use evidence-based instructional routines with a focus on idea generation, planning, drafting, and revising. We will consider how the integration of reading-writing connections supports knowledge building and content learning.
OBJECTIVES
Receive and use practical tools for scaffolding writing for diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students with learning differences.
Explore explicit instruction, guided practice, and gradual release.
Opportunities for teachers to analyze student writing and apply instructional next steps.
