This train-the-trainer workshop series is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding and application of explicit, systematic literacy instruction in elementary classrooms while also building capacity for leadership and training.  Through this training, participants will focus on developing the skills and language needed to facilitate professional learning around explicit literacy instruction, examine lessons in your current curriculum for the components of explicit instruction, and provide actionable feedback. Dedicated planning time will be included for participants to create a clear, actionable plan for training and implementing explicit literacy instruction within their schools or districts.

OBJECTIVES

• Build participant capacity to facilitate, model, and coach explicit literacy instruction within your school or district.

• Examine the principles of explicit and systematic instruction.

• Explore how to design and deliver clear modeling, guided practice and corrective feedback.

• Identify strategies and tools that can be implemented to meet every students’ needs.

• Review current or existing lesson plans to analyze what explicit instruction looks like and sounds like in whole group instruction.

• Develop a practical plan for training and implementing explicit literacy instruction.

*Plus two virtual support sessions per school district to support implementation.
