Meet the Act 20 reading training requirement for leaders and embrace science of reading research and a structured literacy framework in early reading instruction.

The CESA 6 Literacy Training Consortium for New Leaders will help participants build strong knowledge around science-based research for reading instruction. We will explore high-leverage instructional routines that are aligned to the science of reading and support the current brain research about learning to read. We will take a deep dive into the components of structured literacy instruction and identify the necessary shifts in instructional practices to improve students' reading skills. Participants will receive a Companion Guide with all training materials.

OBJECTIVES

• Grow your knowledge about phonological awareness, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, phonemic awareness, and phonics and understand the brain research that supports these areas of reading.
• Learn key instructional frameworks that create opportunities for students to transfer skills from phonics into both reading and writing.
• Explore key “high-leverage” instructional routines and learn how to identify strong practices in the classroom.
• Understand the change process and change management to lead literacy improvement work.
• Build knowledge about leadership strategies that ground the strategic planning process and support literacy improvement.
