Through Act 20, elementary literacy reforms have strengthened early reading instruction. As we prepare to meet the changing needs of our students, the focus must expand to adolescent literacy. Join us to learn how the science of reading extends into adolescent literacy and how instructional practices must evolve in secondary classrooms.
Participants will explore how to strategically plan through the lens of dispositions, knowledge, and skills of teachers and leaders to drive effective literacy instruction and long-term implementation. Through discussion and reflection, leaders will consider what their schools are already doing well, identify entry points for strengthening instruction, and explore larger system-level opportunities that support adolescent readers across grades 6–12. Using the CESA 6 Literacy Impact Workbook (included), teams will identify actionable next steps for improving literacy instruction across disciplines.
As texts become more complex, our instructional leadership must become more intentional. Take the lead in the next chapter of literacy improvement and equip your secondary staff to meet this challenge head-on.
